First on the bridge scale with the rapeseed harvest

Erik Emdal, Otterup, harvested 17 hectares of rapeseed and is pleased with good yields and good prices.

Plant grower Erik Emdal was once again one of the first at the weighbridge at Emmelev A/S in Otterup as the rapeseed harvest came in. Now, only the final task remains of transporting the last of the rapeseed from his fields to Emmelev A/S, after harvesting a total of 17 hectares of rapeseed this year.

“I have had a yield of about 4 tons per hectare, so I am very satisfied. This is at least the same level as last year when there was rapeseed here,” says Erik Emdal.

He cuts the rapeseed and then checks the moisture content post-harvest at home to avoid the additional expense of drying. Now, only one week remains before he can move on to other tasks. Erik Emdal farms 114 hectares and delivers the rapeseed directly to Emmelev A/S, which handles the processing.

At Emmelev A/S, co-owner Morten Simonsen is very pleased with the start of the rapeseed harvest and anticipates that next week will see more vehicles lined up at the weighbridge. The oil extracted from the press cake is used to produce sustainable green biodiesel, while the protein-rich feed cakes, a byproduct, are purchased by dairy producers and help replace the import of soy from South America.
