New book describes Emmelev's story up until now

Emmelev has always been family-owned and has been part of a business community that leans on agriculture.

For almost a couple of hundred years, Emmelev Mølle hasbeen a part of the business community in Otterup.

Over several generations, the company has been in arapid development from a village mill to a producer of a number of sustainableproducts, including biodiesel and feed-cakes, based on rapeseed.

This development has now been described in a bookpublished by Emmelev A/S, and it ties the development together from the past tothe present – and to the future.

Emmelev has always been family-owned and has been part of a business community that leans on agriculture.

It has also been a company that, like agriculture, has undergone a great development. From being a grain and feed business all over Funen in the last century, the focus shifted around the turn of the millennium to sustainable energy and feed production.

The story of Emmelev Mølle begins in 1838, when Adrian Johansen from Nr. Nærå, northwest of Otterup, came walking along Slettens Landevej. He was trained both as a miller and as a mill builder and settled down with his family at Emmelev Banke.

The company evolved. In the 1960s, the fifth generation, the three brothers Helge, Arne and Bjarne Simonsen, carried out a number of acquisitions of departments, so that Emmelev became a grain and feedbusiness that covered the whole of Funen and was one of several players in themarket.

They thus prepared for Denmark's entry into the EC(later the EU) and a flourishing of the agricultural industry. Later, they chose to work in parallel with the production of rapeseed oil and later biodiesel, and at the turn of the millennium, the grain and feed business was sold off.

It was a big task to build up a market for sustainablefuel and a number of other products extracted from rapeseed, but the family succeeded, and today Emmelev A/S is an important player in a number of markets.

The latest addition is the fermentation of rapeseedcakes, so they in the future can be used in human nutrition. This is done through the company Ferm Food, of which Emmelev is a part.
