Emmelev A/Sis a key player in connection with rapeseed production and is now entering intocloser cooperation with L&F on the possibilities in the future.
Emmelev A/S plays a major role in relation to Danish farmers' production of rapeseed, and the company on North Funen was visited in April by Vice Chairman of Landbrug & Fødevarer, Martin Hjort Jensen, and Sector Manager in Plants, Peter Nyegaard Nissen, for a talk about the work.
It was agreed that there is still a need for close cooperation for the benefit of all parties, and among other things, Emmelev A/S will be involved in a plant conference on 12 May in Herning dedicated to the future opportunities in plant production.
Plant-based solutions and biosolutions are developing rapidly and are increasingly becoming central to both the climate, the environment and the food supply. At the conference, agriculture, industry, food companies and the research communitygather to share knowledge, ideas and experiences - and to jointly take the next steps. Participants include: Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, Jacob Jensen, Director of L&F, Morten Boje Hviid and key players from the industry.
At the meeting with Martin Hjort Jensen og Peter Nyegaard Nissen, co-owner Morten Simonsen struck a blow for using rapeseed as a cover crop.
- Rapeseed should be able to be used as a cover crop on an equal footing with early sownwinter wheat, where two hectares sown before 7. September replace one hectareof winter crops. Rapeseed is a crop that has very positive properties and that many farmers greatly appreciate. In addition, rapeseed now plays a role in Denmark's self-sufficiency in energy, among other things, said Morten Simonsen.
Emmelev produces 160,000 tonnes of biodiesel, which corresponds to seven per cent ofthe total diesel consumption in Denmark. The infrastructure is in place with the factory and gas stations, and 24 hours after the raw material is taken into production at Emmelev, the fuel can be in place at the gas station.
MortenSimonsen also expressed his wish to the Minister for Grøn Trepart, Jeppe Bruus, who previously also visited Emmelev A/S.
From a political point of view, there have previously been positive tones towards rapeseed as a cover crop and thus use the cover crop actively and get a yield for the benefit of everyone.
In Finland,a rule change is underway so that rapeseed can be used as a cover crop, and if it happens in an EU country, a change can also be made in Denmark.
In Germany, the cover crops are fertilized to get them to grow well, and in Denmark, it is obvious to let rapeseed be included in the pool of cover crops on an equal footing with winter wheat, as the plant is good at finding the nutrients in the soil and utilizing them.
